 My final wave... Minimize

So last night, after getting my bike out of storage where it's been for over 6 months, loaded  up on the truck I began the drive down to Campbell to a friends garage to get it ready for sale.

As I was approaching the 580 interchage on 680 I noticed two riders up ahead. One was solo, the other with passenger. The solo rider was on the latest and greatest, a Suziki GSX-R 1000. The bike I'd buy if I was to buy one today. He wore only a helmet, tshirt, jeans and gloves. My first impression, I kept expecting him to pop a wheelie. They were in the 2 and 3 lanes moving slower than the fast lane as I was getting ready to pass them the solo rider looked back, saw my bike in the bed of truck and he threw up the universal peace sign that bikers give each other.

I was almost shocked, have been so long since I'd ridden, I had forgotten, bikers wave to each other. In that momment I recalled the feeling of biker commeratery that's share by a common interest in the love of two wheeled travel. You could be riding on your own, but never feel alone as you waved to those passing the other direction.

In a car, your enclosed in your own littler world, distracted by things like radio, cell phones, crying babies, heck even maybe a DVD movie. No one ever notices you or would even have paid attension to the fact that you were traveling on the road for more than the split second that you passed them. I recalled my morning commutes back when I lived in SJ and first started riding. It was a weird feeling to have people wave to you on a regular commute, even accross the freeway divide. That someone actually noticed you and said "Hi, have a good day. Safe riding."

Anyway, in an instant I was reminded what it was like to be a rider. And as I looked back at the rider, I raised my ungloved hand and extened my index and middle finger, spreading them into the V shape horizontially I held my hand up. The rider nodded and looked back to the road. And that's when it hit me...

That would be my last biker wave...

Why are you getting rid of the bike?

That's a sad story! I continue to ride, and I love the comraderie of the whole affair. The fact that if I break down on the side of the road, someone in a cage who is a rider, or another on a bike will stop and lend a hand. There is always a little pick me up when someone who is a completely different style/kind of rider gives you that wave.
